A text criticizing the position of TotalEnergies vis-à-vis Russia is attached to its official site.
“Total is not only a profiteer of the crisis: its profits are made on human lives by supplying fuel to Russian planes“. This message tweeted on August 25 by the MEP Manon Aubry strangely found itself backed by the official website of TotalEnergies.
It has been posted since September 1 around 9 a.m. This message is only visible with the “Total” search. A “TotalEnergies” query does not bring this result.
“Not a cyberattack»
The message refers to an investigation by the World accusing the tanker of supplying kerosene to planes bombing Ukraine. The French group has since denied this information, before selling its 49% stake in Terneftegaz. The company operates the Termokarstovoye gas field in Russia at the heart of the investigation.
The origin of this anomaly is not completely defined. A source within the company tells the Figaro that he does notIt would not be a cyberattack but a Google referencing bug“. On the TotalEnergies site, a widget that has since been removed made it possible to track the publications of their Twitter account in real time. However, the company quoted the message of Manon Aubry to contradict it. A response that probably brought up his message on their site. Google would have identified it as Total content, and thus put it forward.
Contacted, Google indicates to study the origin of the incident.
