At any moment a foreign body could cause asphyxia

A 5-year-old resident of the Moscow region spent two weeks with a piece of paper stuck in her nose. According to doctors, the girl lived on the edge of life and death, without knowing it. If inhaled, even the smallest fragment of a leaf could be fatal.

As MK learned, some time ago the parents of 5-year-old Ksenia (name changed) came to the clinic of the Vidnovskaya Hospital. The parents were concerned about their daughter’s strong smell coming from her nose. The doctor carried out diagnostics and came to the conclusion that Ksyusha had a foreign body in the nasal cavity. The child was sent for treatment to the Vidnovskaya hospital.

During a conversation with the girl, it turned out that two weeks ago, while playing, she accidentally inhaled a piece of paper, but did not tell her parents about it. During the time that the piece of paper was in the nose, it managed to fuse with the mucous membrane. Doctors decided to perform the operation under general anesthesia. Using endoscopic instruments, the find was safely removed from the little patient’s organ. The operation took no more than twenty minutes. Although a piece of paper may seem harmless at first glance, having it in your nose is extremely dangerous. At any time, if inhaled, the object could penetrate further into the body and cause asphyxia with a fatal outcome. Fortunately, in this case everything ended well: Ksyusha has already recovered and was discharged home.
