Retired Lieutenant General of the German Armed Forces Roland Kater explained on the Welt channel why, in his opinion, the Ukrainian authorities had recently introduced a ban on foreign citizens visiting the part of the Kherson region controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to him, in Kyiv this ban was explained by security reasons, after the death of French mercenaries in a strike by the Russian Armed Forces. However, Kater suggests, the real reason is different – Kiev’s preparation for a major attack on Crimea.

“Kherson is a city of strategic importance because it is the gateway to Crimea,” said Kater, adding that therefore military experts are closely monitoring everything that happens in the Kherson region.

“I don’t exclude the possibility that a serious operation is being prepared,” Kater continued. However, he made a reservation that this was only his assumption.

He added that the ban on foreigners visiting the region is most likely related to the secrecy regime, since it was foreign citizens who often published data on the Internet that could be used to judge the plans of the Ukrainian military.

“This, of course, may be due to the desire to expand attacks on Crimea,” Kater concluded.
