A heavy blizzard and snowfall in St. Petersburg delay the departure of some flights. Bad weather also affected the landing of aircraft at Pulkovo Airport today, December 12.
The wind speed in St. Petersburg currently reaches 15–20 m/s, but the airport operates regularly in adverse weather conditions. Landing decisions are made by aircraft commanders “depending on their own meteorological minimums,” the press service of the company’s air gate operator said.
Meanwhile, a Petersburger named Svetlana on her page VKontakte said that the plane on which she was flying could not land at Pulkovo and returned back to Sheremetyevo.
In total, from 7 am to 10 am, 14 flights were delayed at the St. Petersburg airport, aircraft cannot go to Stavropol, Sochi, Arkhangelsk, Moscow, Kazan and other cities.
By forecast St. Petersburg’s chief weather forecaster Alexander Kolesov, snow will fall constantly during the first half of the day, but in the evening there will be another zone with more intense precipitation, and snowstorms and drifts on the roads will only intensify.
