A farmer unearths a golden diadem from the Bronze Age

Not far from the town of Opava, located in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic, a farmer unearthed a gold-adorned diadem or belt. Writes about it Heritagedaily.com.
Upon initial inspection, it was suggested that it was a diadem, a type of crown or headband worn by the ruling elite as a symbol of power.
Measuring 49 cm long, 9 cm wide and weighing 56.5 grams, researchers now suggest that the object is an ornate belt dating from the Middle to Late Bronze Age.
The jewelry is made of a thin metal alloy, which contains more than 84% gold, less than 15% silver and traces of other elements such as copper. The artisans decorated the surface with a series of five large concentric circles surrounded by smaller concentric circles and edging.
Whether the belt was made by local artisans or comes from regions inhabited by Carpathian or Balkan culture requires further research, but archaeologists suggest that the artifact dates from the Urn Field culture period from about 1300 to 750 BC.
This is based on a preliminary study of the decor of the object, which is comparable to ornamentation found in prehistoric cultures from the urn field culture period.
Speaking to Czech Radio, Silesian archaeologist Jiri Jučelka said: “The belt must have belonged to someone from high society, as this type of production was not common. Therefore, it must have been owned by someone respected.”
The belt has been sent to the museum in Bruntal for conservation, where it will be added to the museum’s collection and put on public display.
