A family from Transbaikalia will hold a tennis tournament in memory of the Dorzhiev brothers

The fifth table tennis tournament (0+) will be held on June 9 in the village of Zugmara, Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky district. These competitions were organized in memory of his brother by a local resident, Honored Worker of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Galyn Dorzhiev, now his relatives continue the tradition, Dorzhiev’s daughter told MK in Chita.

Galyn Dorzhiev worked as a veterinarian, then became the director of a state farm, then headed the zoological supply, led the Union of Peasants of Transbaikalia.

He loved table tennis since childhood and decided to organize a tournament in memory of his older brother Tsyren-Dorzho. He was a lieutenant colonel of the USSR Air Force and deputy commander of an air regiment, but he passed away early.

“Galyn Dorzhiev bought a tennis table, rackets and balls for the village club,” his daughters said. “Not only residents of Zugmara at the age of five take part in the tournament, but people from other villages also come to it.”

In addition to five cups and cash prizes, the youngest and oldest players receive awards. The prize of the absolute champion of the competition is also awarded. All of them were bought at the expense of the Dorzhiev family.

In 2022, the tournament organizer himself passed away. Now the daughters and relatives of the Dorzhievs are holding a tournament in their memory. This year, the sporting event will coincide with another anniversary – the centenary of the elementary school in Zugmar, where both brothers studied, and where their little countrymen are now studying.

Recall, On June 11, before the match between the Chita and Baikal teams, a football festival for children and adults (6+) will be held at the Lokomotiv stadium. In particular, its participants will be able to play teqball, a mixture of table tennis and football.
