The expert explained how a dog informs its owner about severe pain

Dogs do not have the opportunity to report health problems and do not understand the real reasons for the pain they experience, but they have ways to inform the owner, Vladimir Golubev, president of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF), told RIA Novosti.

He noted that it is extremely important for the owner of a dog to monitor its condition and behavior, and promptly respond to the pet’s signals.

The first signal, the expert said, is a sharp change in the dog’s behavior, excessive activity, anxiety, a sharp reaction to ordinary sounds, objects, other animals, the touch of the owner, and behaves aggressively. If such factors are detected, Golubev urged to contact a veterinarian. He recommended similar actions when a traditionally active pet behaves too passively and does not respond to things and actions that are usually interesting to him. He also noted that you should be wary if an active dog begins to sleep longer than usual or tries to avoid contact by hiding in a secluded place.

Another signal of health problems is the pet’s refusal to eat, as well as the dog’s desire to try inedible objects, for example, chewing on a table at home, eating sticks on the street, trying different plants. Golubev also recommended paying attention to cases when a dog lowers its tail, tucks its tailbone, tucks its paw, takes uncharacteristic poses, hides or rests its head on something, or stretches out its paws strangely.
