A defendant in the Nemtsov murder case led a battalion under the Ministry of Defense

Former deputy commander of the North battalion, Ruslan Geremeev, who was involved in the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov, was appointed commander of the Sheikh Mansur battalion under the Russian Ministry of Defense. The battalion was created on the initiative of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, reported in Telegram State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov.

“Our brother Ruslan Geremeev will become the commander of the new battalion. He has established himself as a worthy representative of the team of the first president of the Chechen Republic, Hero of Russia Akhmat-Hadzhi Kadyrov, … who courageously and at a high level carries out any assigned tasks,” the deputy wrote.

Politician Boris Nemtsov was killed on February 27, 2015. During the preliminary investigation, Ruslan Geremeev was considered the organizer of the murder, but investigators were unable to interrogate him. He was not questioned during the trial. In 2019 Ruslan Geremeev hit under sanctions of the US Treasury. At the end of March 2022, Ramzan Kadyrov reported about the injury of Ruslan Geremeev in Mariupol.
