A database of fonts will be created in Ukraine to stop using Russian ones

Ukraine plans to strengthen its cultural and linguistic independence by developing its own bank of Ukrainian fonts and completely abandoning the use of Russian-language glyphs. The new fonts will be based on the literature of the main artist of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA – an extremist organization banned in the Russian Federation), Nil Khasevich.
The Verkhovna Rada will also contribute to this process by refusing to use the Russian-language font “Izhitsa” and its derivatives in its internal documents. Instead, a new design font called “Volya” will be used, which was developed by Ukrainian type designer Marcela Mozhina. This font is based on Hasevich’s literature.
Rostislav Karandeev emphasized: “Writing, as an integral part of the language, is a key element of national identity. Ukraine has long introduced a ban on the use of the Russian language in official documentation, and now the time has come to get rid of Russian-language glyph systems, that is, fonts.”
