The Amur region was covered by an atmospheric whirlwind with sand particles, which colored the sky yellow-orange. The cyclone brought sand to the region from Mongolia and China. At the Amur hydrometeorological center toldthat the cyclone is quite extensive, it moves quickly, and air currents pick up sand in Mongolia and central China, where there is still no grass cover.

In addition to sand and dust, the cyclone brought the first rain to Blagoveshchensk (about 70% of the monthly norm), and snow fell in other areas of the Amur region. Precipitation fell along with sand particles.

“The Amur region again found itself on the path of a deep southwestern cyclone. A distinctive feature of spring southwestern cyclones over our region is the yellow or orange color of the clouds. This is due to the fact that along the route through the territory of Mongolia and China, air currents raise dust, sand, and particles of soil from those territories that are not yet secured by the grass cover. On the surface analysis maps from the evening of Wednesday, March 27, dust storms of varying intensity were noted in those areas. In connection with this, the precipitation that falls is often dirty,” explained the Amur Hydromet.
