A court in Moscow announced a verdict for the defendants in the case of the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome

In Moscow, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court rendered a verdict in the case of fraud during the construction of the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The general director of the Respect-SM company, Alik Aleksanyan, and the general director of BAVAL, Bagrat Mirzoyan, were found guilty by the court of committing crimes under articles of fraud and illegal circulation of payment funds, respectively.
Each was sentenced to 5 years in prison in a general regime correctional colony, the press service of the capital’s courts of general jurisdiction reported.
In June 2022, Aleksanyan was arrested by a court on charges of fraud in the amount of more than 60 million rubles while performing construction and installation work at the Vostochny cosmodrome. During the investigation, he denied his guilt.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the scale of corruption during the construction of Vostochny in November 2019. The head of state noted that despite dozens of criminal cases, order was never restored there. Later it became known that the Investigative Committee sent 42 criminal cases to court about fraud, waste and abuse during the construction of the cosmodrome.
