The Supreme Court of Moldova canceled the country’s ex-president Igor Dodon’s recognizance not to leave the republic.
With this decision, the court rejected the prosecutor’s request to extend the preventive measure in the form of “judicial control” for another 60 days.
Former President of Moldova Dodon was detained last spring, in May. He was charged with bribery, passive corruption, and maintaining a political party with funds from a criminal group.
The so-called “Kulsk” case against Dodon was opened on the basis of a video that shows the chairman of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc, handing him a black package in 2019. Prosecutors claim that the defendant could have received from $600 thousand to $1 million to finance the Socialist Party.
On November 18 last year, the former president was released from house arrest by decision of the Supreme Court of Justice. At the same time, the court forbade him to leave Moldova. Since then, the measure has been regularly extended by the court.
