A clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents has begun in Sechenovka

A clinical study of the Covid vaccine for children from 12 to 17 years old “Sputnik M” (“Gam-COVID-Vac-M”) began at Sechenov University of the Russian Ministry of Health, reports TASS with reference to the university press service.
The press service clarified that the research is being carried out at the Center for Maternity and Childhood of the First Moscow State Medical University of the Russian Ministry of Health. It is alleged that Sputnik M will protect children from strains of the covid variant of HBV. The purpose of the study is to study the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of the vaccine, the director of the Clinical Institute of Children’s Health told the agency. N. F. Sechenovka emphasized that “Gam-COVID-Vac-M” as part of the study will be administered to adolescents whose condition fully meets the selection requirements. The drug is administered twice with an interval of 21 days. The study participants will be monitored by doctors for 180 days. The first results of the study will be known on the 28th day after vaccination, Ms. Alekseeva said.
At the end of October, the Ministry of Health warned about the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in several regions of Russia. The day before the ministry updated guidelines for doctors on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. The updated guidelines, in particular, include the new vaccine “Gam-COVID-Vac-D”, intended for children aged 6 to 11 years, as well as “Gam-COVID-Vac-M”.
Sputnik V no longer protects against COVID-19 from January 2023. This was announced by the head of the Gamaleya Center that developed Sputnik, Alexander Gintsburg, who added that this happened after the spread of the “Kraken” variant of the coronavirus. Mr. Gunzburg expects clinical trials of the new vaccine to end on December 10, but admits that by the time it enters civilian circulation in March next year, the drug may be partially or completely no longer relevant.
