Krasnoyarsk will become the site of the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament. About 300 athletes from the Krasnoyarsk Territory and regions of Siberia will come to the competition.

The competition will take place from March 15 to 17 and will be dedicated to the memory of the Honored Trainer of Russia Anatoly Sopov. This is the founder of the development of Greco-Roman wrestling in the capital of the region. In 1956, he was the first Krasnoyarsk resident to fulfill the master of sports standard. This athlete won the Russian Championship and became a five-time champion of Siberia. Sopov was the first coach of another legendary wrestler – Dmitry Mindiashvili.

“The tournament in memory of Anatoly Solopov for young wrestlers is an excellent start and an opportunity to express themselves at the city level, and in the future at higher levels,” noted Maxim Oreshnikov, head of the main department for physical culture and sports, emphasizing that Krasnoyarsk has become the capital of wrestling, as it hosts competitions at different levels.

Athletes under 16 years old in weight categories from 29 to 100 kg are allowed to participate in the city tournament. The Greco-Roman wrestling team of the city sports school of the Olympic reserve will consist of 60 people. Wrestlers who show good results will be able to qualify for regional competitions.

The opening will take place on March 16 at 12:00. The tournament will be held at the Dmitry Mindiashvili Wrestling Academy.
