Moscow School No. 1354 Vector has launched a city farming studio where children and teenagers learn how to work with hydroponic plants, grow plants without soil, and master the art of growing greens at home. The classes are taught by biology teacher Ivan Parfeniy.
Active participants in the work of the studio were children who study in the classes of the natural science profile, not only at this school, but also at other schools in the capital. In the classroom, they get acquainted with the secrets of farming in an urban environment, with the method of making a solution and sowing seeds in the Home Garden system, and learn what a vertical garden is. According to biology teacher Ivan Parfeniy, for all this they need to know chemistry and biology well.
The idea of a city farming studio appeared at the school last year, when a greenhouse was opened, where the children, together with the teacher, planted seedlings and grew a rich crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, radishes and eggplants. This year, the teacher, together with the students, decided to master such a fashionable direction as city farming.
As Ivan Parfeniy said, the schoolchildren set to work with enthusiasm: they mix solutions with pleasure, prepare a nutrient medium for plants, monitor the growth of dill, parsley, arugula, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers and mini tomatoes. By the summer holidays, they will probably already be able to give advice as consultants on how to grow plants without soil, even to their parents, they will begin to apply the acquired knowledge in their backyards, and someone, perhaps in city apartments, so that on their table all year round was fresh greens.
