About 3 thousand Muslims performed namaz in honor of the beginning of the Eid al-Adha holiday in the new Cathedral Mosque in Simferopol. The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea told Kommersant about this. According to the chief Crimean mufti Emerali Ablaev, from that day the new mosque began full-fledged work.
The official grand opening of the mosque will take place later; Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to take part in the ceremony. “We are looking forward to his visit. This mosque is a gift to us from the Almighty and from the president of our country, so Crimean Muslims should always appreciate it,” the mufti noted.
Construction of the cathedral mosque in Simferopol began in 2016. Commissioning of the facility was planned for 2019, but the work was delayed and postponed, including due to the coronavirus pandemic and problems with the supply of building materials. The cost of the object is estimated at 2 billion to 3 billion rubles.
