Liu Zhenli, who currently holds the position of head of the General Staff of the National Liberation Army of China (PLA), could presumably become the new Minister of Defense of China. Reuters reports this.

It is likely that Liu Zhenli may officially take over as defense chief before the Xiangshan Forum, a major international security seminar to be held in Beijing from October 29 to 31.

The publication suggests that the appointment of a new minister could intensify military cooperation between China and the United States amid tensions between Beijing and Washington.

In mid-September this year, Li Shangfu did not appear in public for two weeks. A little later, The Washington Post reported that the Chinese minister was under investigation on suspicion of corruption.
