A bust of Stalin was inaugurated in the city of Orlov, Kirov Region. Stalin’s great-grandson Selim Bensaad came to the event. The “Vyatka Regional Public Organization of Victims of Illegal Political Repression” opposed the installation and appealed to the regional prosecutor’s office. The communists are sure that the vice-governor of the Kirov region Andrei Luchinin is behind this.
“The decision to erect a monument to Stalin is not the authoritarian opinion of the Orlov administration. We have carried out colossal public work on this issue, spending almost six months on it,” newsler.ru quotes the leader of the Kirov communists, deputy of the regional legislative assembly Sergei Mamaev.
He explains that the initiative group decided to install the bust in March. More than two thousand residents of Orlov signed this. The decision was then approved by the local council.
“The officials began to become hysterical in early October, two weeks before the installation of the monument. In my opinion, Luchinin demanded that municipal officials in Orlov not allow the installation of the monument,” says Mr. Mamaev. On the evening of October 24, Mr. Luchinin was not available for comment.
According to Sergei Mamaev, the “Vyatka regional public organization of victims of illegal political repression” “suddenly becomes extremely excited and submits an application to the prosecutor’s office demanding that the installation of a monument to Stalin not be allowed.” The communist declares that the situation has reached the federal level and the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov will deal with this.
