A British man mistook a 500-kilogram German bomb he dug up on his property for a boiler
British resident Ian Gery, while carrying out construction work in the local area on the site of his daughter’s new house, found a 500-kilogram German bomb from the Second World War.
The Briton was digging a trench under the foundation of the extension and, when his shovel hit the metal casing, he assumed that he had stumbled upon an old boiler or a piece of scrap metal, reports the Daily Mail. When the soil around the unexploded shell was washed away by rain, the man called the police.
The bomb has been taken away and is planned to be sunk or defused with a controlled explosion.
