A bill was introduced to the State Duma to increase the minimum wage to the level of the minimum wage

Deputies of A Just Russia – For Truth (SRZP) introduced a bill to the State Duma, which proposes to establish the minimum tariff wage rate at a level not lower than one minimum wage (minimum wage). I have read the explanatory note to the draft law “RIA News”. From January 1, 2024, the minimum wage in Russia is 19,242 rubles.

Amendments are proposed to be made to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. The changes establish that the minimum wage of an employee who has worked the full standard working time for the month cannot be lower than the minimum wage. The explanatory note states that due to wages below the approved minimum wage, people find themselves “in a very vulnerable position.” The authors of the initiative note that more than 700 thousand Russian citizens face unfair wage calculations.

The head of SRZP Sergei Mironov, quoted by RIA Novosti, indicated that the fall in wages below the minimum wage began in 2007. Then amendments were adopted that eliminated the minimum state guarantee of remuneration for work, and employers received the right to set base salaries below the minimum wage. “This federal law is aimed at restoring minimum state guarantees of remuneration for labor, attracting professionally qualified personnel and eliminating the labor shortage,” the explanatory note says.

On February 29, President Vladimir Putin, in his message to the Federal Assembly, stated that starting from 2020, the minimum wage in Russia has increased by one and a half times. Then he designated plan to increase the minimum wage to 35 thousand rubles. by 2030. According to Rosstat, the poverty level in the country at the end of 2023 reached a historical minimum. At the end of the year, it decreased from 9.8% to 9.3% of the country’s population.
