A legislative initiative has been submitted to the State Duma that would establish payments to married couples for a long-term marriage. The document is posted on website lower house

The authors of the bill propose to establish payments on the anniversary of marriage from 20 years. So for 20 years of marriage the couple will receive 20 thousand rubles, for 25 years – 25 thousand rubles. and so on. The maximum amount is 70 thousand rubles. for 70 years of marriage.

The right to payments will be given to spouses permanently residing in Russia, whose marriage has not been dissolved or declared invalid. It is noted that the duration of several marriages is not summed up. Widows and widowers are entitled to receive a payment if one of the spouses passes away during the anniversary year.

The authors of the initiative were a group of deputies, including Federation Council member Elena Afanasyeva and head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov. The explanatory note states that the initiative is designed to encourage the institution of marriage, which is “going through difficult times.”

In addition, Mr. Nilov said that similar payments exist in the regions, but the amount greatly depends on the subject of the country. “We should not discriminate against people depending on their place of residence,” the deputy emphasized (quoted from RT).

Payments for long-term marriage are provided in 19 regions of Russia. In particular, in St. Petersburg, on the 50th anniversary of marriage, a payment of 50 thousand rubles is provided. In some regions of Russia, instead of money, spouses are awarded certificates and medals. If the initiative is adopted, the law will come into force on July 1, 2024.

Earlier, the Ministry of Labor announced that it would update the rules for assigning a single benefit for families with children in order to solve the problem of artificially lowering income through fictitious divorces.
