Surgeons at the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital in Nizhny Novgorod removed a 15-centimeter roundworm from the scrotum of a teenager. The parasite settled in such a delicate place of the boy after a mosquito bite.
According to the hospital on its page on the VKontakte network, the patient said that about three months ago he noticed a painful induration. When the doctors conducted a study using ultrasound, they noticed that the contents were moving in the cystic formation.
Already after the removal of the neoplasm in the section of the pathological node, the surgeons found a white worm curled up into a ball, the length of which was 15 cm. The teenager was diagnosed with dirofilariasis.
The natural reservoir and source of mosquito infestation with worms of this type are usually dogs and wild canids.
