Estonia will make a formal proposal to the European Commission on the introduction of the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The decision was made at a government meeting.
According to Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, it is extremely important to speed up the adoption of the next package of sanctions in order to “tighten and strengthen restrictive measures.” To do this, according to the minister, it is necessary to act systematically to “consistently increase the price of aggression” for Russia.
As part of the eighth sanctions package, Estonians propose to expand anti-Russian sanctions in the areas of economy, energy and trade. In addition, it is proposed to add new individuals and legal entities under the restrictions.
Reinsalu also stressed that his country is working to reach a political consensus across the entire Schengen visa area in order to impose additional sanctions on Russian citizens.
