Russia does not plan to supply gas and oil to countries that will set a price ceiling for Russian energy resources. At the same time, discussion of this initiative raises many questions. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“While incomprehensible discussions are going on among the Europeans on the ceiling, inexplicable numbers are being called. It feels like they are trying to make a decision for the sake of a decision, in order to put a tick that the ceiling has been introduced, ”he said.

The Kremlin spokesman noted that it is still difficult to predict how this restriction will affect the energy market. According to him, “an in-depth analysis is ahead” of the initiative.

Peskov also recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia would not supply energy to those countries that would join the price ceiling. At the same time, the final position of Moscow will be formulated after analyzing the situation, the spokesman added.

Earlier today at the European Commission (EC) reportedthat the EU countries could not agree on a position on the marginal price for gas and oil from Russia. European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson noted that negotiations will continue.

The day before, November 23, Bloomberg wrotethat the negotiations between the EU countries have stalled. According to the publication, the EC proposed a ceiling of $65 per barrel, but the Baltic countries and Poland rejected this figure, considering it too “generous”. Newspaper Politico claimsthat Poland is pushing for a cap price of $30 per barrel. At the same time, Greece and Malta opposed the introduction of a ceiling below $70 per barrel.
