World’s tallest wind turbine unveiled in Denmark

The Danish company Vestas presented a 199 m high wind power generator, which works with a new V172 turbine with a maximum power of 7.2 MW. According to CNBC, it is the world’s tallest land-based windmill. For comparison: it is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York. The wind generator was launched by Vestas together with the German company Max Bogl, using technologies from both companies.
AT designs used steel and concrete. The windmill has three modes of operation with different power. It can also operate at low temperatures (down to -30°C). Introducing the wind giant, Vestas noted that its height “allows it to capture stronger and more constant wind currents,” which increases the turbine’s performance.
“Especially for projects in Central Europe, which are often short of space, this facility makes an important contribution to increasing green electricity production,” the Danish company said in a statement. It is expected that the first windmills of this series will be installed in Germany and Austria in 2025.
