The employer has the right to install a security camera in the work area, but there are restrictions, said Kirill Danilov, a lawyer and teacher at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in an interview with the Prime agency.
Firstly, the lawyer noted, the use of video cameras must be specified in the regulations of the institution. In addition, due to the fact that photos and videos of personnel are their biometric personal data, coordination of this issue with them is required.
Moreover, it is the employer’s responsibility to install signs in a visible place informing about video recording, and installing hidden cameras in the work area is illegal. An employer can also control the correspondence of its employees, but only within the work account and corporate mailbox. For violation, the employer can be fined 300-700 thousand rubles, the lawyer said.
