III Chess Festival – Memorial to the Memory of A.N. The rapid chess championship will be held in three categories. The tournament in Zheleznovodsk brought together 200 athletes of various ranks and children of different ages from all over Russia. In 2002, Alexander Lastin became the champion of Russia. In his career, he won the Russian Championship and stages of the Russian Cup.
“Alexander Lastin was one of the strongest grandmasters in Russia and the III chess tournament brought together a huge number of players from all over the country. Alexander was a chess player, primarily of a tactical style. His strong point is complex positions, rich in tactics. In such a fight he was incredibly dangerous. However, the strength of Alexander’s play always went slightly ahead of his athletic results and rating. The chess player from Zheleznovodsk conquered the whole world with his game. I’m sure this won’t be our last such major championship,” said resort mayor Evgeniy Bakulin.
