In the capital of Udmurtia, an advertisement for the Coffee Seven coffee shop was deemed inappropriate and violated the law, as it offended the feelings of believers. In particular, booklets published in honor of the institution’s 20th anniversary, which depicted a teapot pouring coffee into the open dome of the bell tower of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, were the subject of controversy. This was reported by the press service of the Udmurt OFAS Russia.
The inscription and image on the booklet outraged the Izhevsk and Udmurt diocese, where the partially dismantled dome with a cross was considered similar to “the actions of the Soviet authorities to destroy shrines.” The image of the cross on the falling dome also “grossly violated the religious feelings of the faithful Orthodox Christians.”
In the coffee house itself, Kommersant was told that the institution did not want to offend anyone’s feelings, and the booklets were removed immediately after the first complaints appeared. As a result, the advertisement was deemed inappropriate. The violator faces a fine in the amount of 100 thousand to 500 thousand rubles. Note that the coffee shop is located opposite the cathedral. This place was opened in 2003.
