CRITICISM – Blanche Gardin and Laurent Lafitte are the heroes of Céline Devaux’s first feature film. A duo that makes you think of a modern version of the white clown and the Auguste for an imperfect film, but overflowing with melancholy humor.
For his first feature film, Everybody loves Joan , Céline Devaux could not choose. Director and illustrator, she could not let go of her pencil and prevent herself from slipping animation sequences. Let’s get rid of the annoying things. These graphic dots are of little interest. They depict a kind of little black and white ghost, a hairy creature, with or without sunglasses. It is supposed to represent Jeanne’s unconscious. She harasses her, and the spectator with it, uttering aloud what the young woman thinks quietly, between shameful thoughts and sincere opinions. A false good idea, therefore, less original than harmful. No doubt a necessary crutch for a beginner director.
