When trying to access the State Services website, users are prompted to connect an “additional login confirmation method”. It follows from the message of the service that two-factor authorization will become mandatory from October 1, 2023, the Vedomosti correspondent was convinced.
Without two-factor protection, only a username and password are needed for authorization. Shadayev then explained that the ministry is improving the protection system, since the existing one is no longer enough. When logging into an account, a user can, for example, receive an additional SMS message to a phone number, the minister said.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation announced the introduction of mandatory two-factor identification in December 2021. This was due to the protection of users from fraud. At the same time, the ability to connect such a function was already then.
Sources close to the ministry told Izvestia that more than 100 million profiles have already been created on the portal, but 90% of them require one-factor identification to enter – most Russians protect their personal data only with a password, usually a weak one.
