Volodin called Russia “the last island of freedom for the media”
Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin criticized journalists who filmed Leonid Slutsky, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party, sleeping during the meeting and posted it online. Volodin expressed his dissatisfaction during a meeting of the Council of Legislators in St. Petersburg.
The speaker of the State Duma cited the example of Great Britain, where journalists will be expelled for such things in relation to lords and peers.
“The last island of media freedom is Russia. This advantage must not be abused,” Volodin said.
He also added that Slutsky was sleeping because he “worked all night and met with voters,” and suggested that the media tell people about it. At the same time, Volodin expressed support for the LDPR leader, but warned against further sleep at the meeting.
