Volodymyr Rogov, a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, in his Telegram channel assessed the importance of the new law, which allows the termination of Ukrainian citizenship.

On March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the termination of Ukrainian citizenship for Russian citizens from the day they filed an application with the Ministry of Internal Affairs about their unwillingness to be a member. Thus, the applicant is released from Ukrainian citizenship immediately after the submission of the relevant application.

“Whoever is unlucky enough to have a passport with a trident on the cover knows that Ukrainian citizenship is like a well-known substance – if you get into it, then it’s almost impossible to get rid of it,” Rogov wrote.

According to him, for many years many Cossacks could not get rid of the citizenship of Ukraine, as the Ukrainian authorities prevented them from doing so.

The new law will enter into force 90 days after the day of its official publication. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the law may affect more than 2 million people.
