The heavy nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine Dmitry Donskoy has been withdrawn from the combat strength of the Russian Navy, said Vladimir Maltsev, head of the Fleet Support Movement. According to him, “Dmitry Donskoy” will await disposal at the naval base in Severodvinsk with two other submarines of the same project (941).

As Mr. Maltsev said TASSa new “Dmitry Donskoy” project “Borey-A” is being built at the Sevmash plant.

The submarine “Dmitry Donskoy” was included in the fleet in 1980 as part of project 941. In terms of displacement, it is the largest in the world – 48 thousand tons. For some time, the submarine was the largest in dimensions (172 m in length and 23 mm wide), but now the Belgorod submarine is considered to be such. Information about plans to withdraw “Dmitry Donskoy” from the Russian Navy appeared summer 2022.
