65% of Russians donate money to charity

In 2022, more than half of Russian citizens (65%) donated money to charity, every second (55%) supported foundations once a year, and 17% of Russians donated money several times a month. Most often, Russians supported funds that help children and animals. This is evidenced by the survey data of the marketplace “Compare”.

Funds that help children were supported by 54% of respondents, funds that help animals – 25%. Organizations helping people with serious illnesses supported 10%, older people and vulnerable people – 6%.

At the same time, most Russians are not ready to donate large sums to charity. Only 16% can donate more than 5,000 a year. More than half (59%) are ready to allocate 500 rubles. per year, another 15% – up to 1 thousand rubles. per year, 11% – 2-5 thousand rubles.

Last year, Russia improved its position in the World Giving Index, pdf) to 30th place (124th place in 2017, 67th in 2020). The rating takes into account how citizens are willing to donate their money, time and effort to help someone who needs help. The first place in the index was occupied by Indonesia, the second – by Kenya, the third – by the USA.
