603 Russian cities are recognized as favorable for living

The Ministry of Construction calculated index the quality of the urban environment for 1117 cities. Its average value was 192 points (growth by 2019 – 13.6%). 603 cities are recognized as favorable for living. The rating of the largest cities located in a conditionally comfortable climate was headed by Moscow and St. Petersburg (299 and 264 points, respectively). The top 10 among million-plus cities also includes: Kazan (216), Nizhny Novgorod (214), Rostov-on-Don (212), Yekaterinburg (209), Perm (208), Ufa (208), Chelyabinsk (204) and Novosibirsk (204). Among large cities in terms of the quality of the urban environment, Mytishchi and Grozny near Moscow are leading (both 241 points), large cities – Reutov (268), medium – Kudrovo (261), small (population 25-50 thousand) – Mozhaisk (249), the smallest ( up to 25 thousand) – Zelenogradsk in the Kaliningrad region (250).

The largest dynamics over the past year was shown by the city of Dankov in the Lipetsk region (+26 points), Domodedovo near Moscow (+15 points), Kamensk-Uralsky in the Sverdlovsk region (+13 points) and Beloyarsky in the KhMAO (+10 points).

The index assesses 36 different indicators of the quality of the urban environment that characterize 6 types of urban spaces: housing, public and business and social and leisure infrastructure, green areas, embankments, street infrastructure and citywide space. The maximum number of points that a city can score is 360. The city environment is considered favorable if the quality index is more than 180 points.
