60% of parents and 67% of children know about the “First Movement” – Kommersant

On February 1, the last day of the Second Congress of the First Movement at VDNKh, President Vladimir Putin visited the event site. On the eve of VTsIOM published the results of a survey of children and parents, whom sociologists asked if they knew this all-Russian organization of children and youth.
It turned out that 8% of parents and 23% of children are well aware of the movement. 52% of parents and 44% of children have heard something about “Firsts”; 35% and 33%, respectively, hear for the first time. 69% of parents believe that there should be more information about the movement, and 40% say this with complete confidence, only 7% tend to note an excess of information. 74% of parents fully support or rather support the idea of creating such an association of children and youth; only 15% of respondents do not support or rather do not support. 70% of children are interested in what they can do while moving and what it provides for its participants. Of the children who are already members of the First Movement, 93% are inclined to recommend their friends to join them.
The survey took place in November-December 2023 and included 1,603 children aged 6 to 18 years, as well as 1,600 parents. The study was organized by order of the Expert Institute for Social Research (EISR), personal interviews using a formalized questionnaire were conducted in 110 settlements of 68 regions in all federal districts, in addition, an all-Russian Internet survey was conducted, in which randomly selected recipients participated (84 regions, all types settlements).
“During 2022 and 2023, the Movement of the First managed to do a lot of work in opening primary branches throughout Russia and highlighting its activities in the information space,” says Daniil Ermolaev, director of VTsIOM-consulting for development. “This has borne fruit. The indicators that we see today are quite high for an organization that has existed for a year and a half. At the same time, it is important to understand that this is not so much about stable knowledge as it is about primary interest – these people have heard about the movement, they are interested in it, and they are considering joining it.”
The sociologist notes the high readiness of the “First” to recommend joining the movement to their friends and girlfriends. “The situation with parents is a little more complicated,” says Mr. Ermolaev. “Despite the fact that 60% have heard about the movement, 69% note that they would like there to be more information. This means that so far the channel of communication with them has not been established effectively enough – the messages that parents see arouse their interest, but the information they contain is probably not enough to form a full-fledged idea of the movement. At the same time, it is important to understand that parents for any organization working with children and youth are a much more complex audience than children and adolescents. As a rule, information reaches them through the child, and the reaction to it is not so much a response to the actual activities of the organization as a response to the opinion of their son or daughter. It’s quite difficult to break into their personal information circuit.”
