35% of Russian companies allow relocators to keep their jobs – Kommersant

On the issue of keeping the work of employees who actually moved to other countries, Russian companies were divided almost equally. This follows from a survey of the HR holding Ventra. In 36% of the surveyed companies, it is impossible to work remotely outside of Russia, 35% treat this practice normally.

After six months of staying in another country, citizens who have left the Russian Federation but continue to work for Russian companies lose their tax resident status in the Russian Federation and are exempted from paying income tax on the salary they receive, since it is already income from a source outside the Russian Federation. Amendments to the Tax Code regarding relocators were made April 24th. They assumed that for those employees who lost their tax residency (that is, they work from abroad for more than 183 days within 12 months), the personal income tax rate should be 30%. On April 25, the bill was withdrawn.

In May at the Ministry of Finance reportedthat the personal income tax rate for employees who have gone abroad and work remotely both under labor contracts and under civil law contracts will be the same and will amount to 13-15%.

If freelancers work under an agreement with an organization, are not self-employed or individual entrepreneurs, and they have an obligation to pay Russian personal income tax, then a Russian company speaks tax agent, the experts reminded.
