Over 2.3 billion rubles will be allocated for the development of sports in new regions of Russia this year. from the federal budget and extrabudgetary sources, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko during a visit to the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), where he visited, among other things, the Lugansk Higher School of Physical Culture.
As noted in the press service, in the LPR, as part of the implementation of the program for the socio-economic development of new regions, until March 1, 2024, it is planned to restore nine sports facilities, create seven open-type sports and recreation centers, as well as purchase sports equipment, inventory and equipment.
“The people here should have their own team. In order for the Luhansk club to play in the Russian Premier League, you need to set such a goal for yourself and go towards it. The Olympic Reserve School will help you,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
On September 30, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the annexation of the regions to Russia. Putin stressed that the inhabitants of the annexed territories “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.” Referendums on the issue of joining the regions to the Russian Federation were held from 23 to 27 September. According to the results of calculations, 100% of ballots in the DPR and LPR supported joining Russia by 99.23% and 98.42% of those who voted, respectively, in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – 93.11% and 87.05%, respectively.
