Death toll from fasting cult rises to 201 in Kenya
In Kenya, the death toll of members of the Good News International Church, which practiced fasting, has reached 201, RIA Novosti reports.
Police found 22 more bodies, according to local NTV channel.
Earlier it was reported that law enforcement agencies were working on the estate of the founder of the church, pastor Paul Mackenzie, in the Shakahol forest. There they find and open the graves of sectarians.
Local authorities claimed that a total of 609 members of the sect were missing.
The search and exhumation of the bodies of those who died due to a cult that promotes hunger for “meeting with Christ” began in April.
After the autopsy of the found bodies, a version appeared that it could be about the trade in organs of sectarians. The pastor told his followers to starve themselves. An autopsy showed that some of the deceased had no internal organs.
There are also children among the dead.
The pastor himself was detained in April and placed in custody after the death of two children. After some time he was released on bail, but then arrested again.
Some of the sectarians who were rescued continue to starve. It also turned out that the children were strangled.
