2023/24 KHL regular season to feature record 165 game days

On the official website of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) published calendar matches of the upcoming regular season season 2023/24. It will have 165 in-game days, which will be a record high. The last championship consisted of 164 game days. The regular season will end on February 26, 2024. A total of 782 games are planned. The clubs will play 68 matches each.
The 2023/24 regular season starts on September 1st. The first match at the Moscow CSKA Arena stadium will be played by CSKA and Ak Bars hockey players: these two teams played in April in the Gagarin Cup final. The next day, Barys, Avtomobilist, Neftekhimik, Lada, Severstal, Vityaz, Spartak and Dynamo Moscow will play home matches. Also on September 2, the Siberian derby between Avangard and Sibir will take place.
A pause is planned in the regular season from December 8 to 18, during which the Week of Hockey Stars and the First Channel Cup will take place. The New Year’s break will last three days – from December 31 to January 2. The playoffs will start on February 29, 2024 and end no later than April 29.
On average, five matches will be played in the championship every day. The maximum number of matches is scheduled for October – 146. The minimum will be held in December – 100.
At the end of May, following a meeting of KHL leaders, it was decided to change the format of the cup stage from next season. The usual scheme with clashes in each round, except for the final, of clubs from the same KHL conference was corrected by introducing the so-called cross play-off starting from the second round.
