The death of 20-year-old short speed skater Anastasia Sereda could have been caused by the flu, which caused complications in the brain. This was announced by Nikolai Tretyakov, a representative of the St. Petersburg Skating Federation.

“I haven’t seen the final conclusion yet. According to my information, the athlete died due to influenza A, which caused complications on the brain,” Mr. Tretyakov told TASS. According to his information, Anastasia Sereda spent almost a month in a coma and “failed to get out.”

Previously personal trainer Marina Yashina reportedthat the athlete died on January 6. She spent a month in a hospital in Ufa due to an infectious disease. “Today she should be brought to Saransk, a funeral is planned for tomorrow,” the coach added.

Master of Sports of Russia in short track speed skating Anastasia Sereda was born on March 30, 2003. In the competition, Anastasia Sereda represented Mordovia and St. Petersburg. In 2019, she entered the top six short track speed skaters in Russia. In 2022, she won the Russian Cup as part of the relay team.
