Spain’s 1964 European football champion and 1960 Ballon d’Or winner Luis Suarez has died at the age of 88. Royal Spanish Football Federation.
“The Royal Spanish Football Federation and its President Luis Rubiales express their deepest condolences to the entire family and close friends of Luis Suárez Miramontes, who passed away this Sunday, July 9,” the organization said in a statement.
Luis Suarez played as a midfielder. During his football career, he played in Barcelona, Inter Milan and Sampdoria Genoa, becoming the first Spanish player to move to the Italian championship. Suarez is a two-time Spanish champion and a three-time Italian champion.
