The Tanuki restaurant chain has been awarded compensation for losses – they must be paid by the founder of the Men’s State movement banned in Russia, Vladislav Pozdnyakov. The company demanded to reimburse 158 thousand rubles. from an economic attack in which activists of the organization canceled the delivery of dishes, demanding the removal of advertising banners with a black man and rainbow symbols. Vladislav Pozdnyakov emigrated from Russia. However, representatives of the Tanuki assured that they will find a way to recover the damage when the decision comes into force.
The Leninsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod ruled on the suit of the Tanuki sushi bar chain against Vladislav Pozdnyakov, Dmitry Gubanov and Igor Nosov. Mr. Pozdnyakov is the founder, and the other defendants are former members of the “Men’s State” movement, recognized extremist organization for harassing women and sexual minorities on social networks. Restaurateurs on behalf of the management company “Voskhod” demanded compensation 158 thousand rubles losses for last year’s attack with the cancellation of orders. Then a number of citizens in Moscow, Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod made orders in Tanuki for cash, and when delivering food, they did not answer the phone and turned off their phones. Unclaimed dishes then had to be disposed of.
Vladislav Pozdnyakov urged his supporters to harm the Tanuki in the Telegram channel. He was outraged by advertisements for restaurants with a black man and rainbow-colored packaging similar to LGBT symbols. The leader of the movement demanded that Tanuki remove banners from the network and apologize to the “Russian nation” for imposing alien values on it. The “Male State” (“MG”) made similar claims to the delivery of sushi “Ebidoebi”, which eventually apologized and removed similar ads.
The Tanuki did not respond to the threat, counting dozens of canceled orders. Clients signed the reasons for the refusal as “mg”, “in vain you fit for nigers” and other notes indicating a planned attack. Mikhail Andreev, a representative of Voskhod LLC, said in court that the organizers managed to pull off the attack after a mass purchase of SIM cards. Callers to Tanuki food delivery used the number only once.
Since none of the refusing clients could be found, a lawsuit was filed against three defendants in the administrative case on the recognition of the “Men’s State” as an extremist organization.
Only 19-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident Igor Nosov appeared in court on the claim of Tanuki, the court summonses for two more defendants were returned as unclaimed.
Igor Nosov said that he was not involved in last year’s attacks on Tanuki, as he left MG back in 2018, having become disillusioned with the ideas of the movement after Vladislav Pozdnyakov’s supporters became massive poison in social networks of girls flirting with foreign fans during the World Cup. The young man said that initially the MG members adhered to the ideas of a healthy lifestyle and helped the society by arranging subbotniks and removing garbage in parks. The testimony of the defendant was partly confirmed by Alexander Negin, an employee of the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Combating Extremism, who was interrogated as a witness. The police officer recalled that the participants in the “Male State” had been developed for a long time, but in 2018, when Vladislav Pozdnyakov arrested on charges of extremism for attacks on girls (subsequently, the article of the charge was decriminalized), the Nizhny Novgorod cell broke up. The operative doubted that Igor Nosov could be involved in the attacks on the Tanuki.
After examining the evidence, the chairman of the district court, Mikhail Grits, partially satisfied the claim, deciding to recover 158 thousand rubles. losses only from Vladislav Pozdnyakov.
Dmitry Gubanov and Igor Nosov were found not involved in the attacks. In their favor was also the decision of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court to ban the “Men’s State”, in which the self-dissolution of the Nizhny Novgorod cell was established.
Mikhail Andreev told Kommersant that the very fact of the decision in favor of the restaurant chain is important for Tanuki. “How to recover damages, the company will decide when the court decision comes into force,” he specified. Judging by the fact that Vladislav Pozdnyakov left Russia long ago, it will not be easy for restaurateurs to achieve real compensation for losses.
