Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, more than 15,000 people have signed up for Russian volunteer units. This was stated by the head of the second department of the main organizational and mobilization department of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Alexander Tulyaganov.
“At present, more than 15,000 people have passed through volunteer detachments,” said Alexander Tulyaganov during a meeting of the Federation Council (quoted by RIA Novosti). He noted that we are talking not only about volunteers who went to the front as part of partial mobilization, but also about those who applied to the military registration and enlistment offices of their own free will before the announcement of mobilization.
In addition, during the meeting, Mr. Tulyaganov presented to the senators a law on the status of volunteer formations and volunteers. However, he clarified that the law does not apply to private military companies.
The day before, on October 31, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the completion of the draft as part of partial mobilization. It was noted that now the work of military registration and enlistment offices for recruiting into the ranks of the armed forces will be organized by accepting volunteers and candidates for military contract service.
On October 27, the State Duma in the third reading adopted a law establishing the status of volunteer formations. According to the document, volunteers are equal in status to contract servicemen.
