Large-scale protests of national trade unions took place in the capital of Italy. About ten thousand people came to the streets of Rome, who came here from all over the country. One of the main demands is the termination of Italy’s participation in the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to the protesters, it, coupled with anti-Russian sanctions, leads to higher prices and lower living standards.
“There is a feeling that our country is at war due to the continuous shipment of weapons to Ukraine. In the conditions of the economic crisis, all social costs are shifted to ordinary citizens. As military spending increases, wages suffer,” said Eduardo Sorge, leader of the SiCobas trade union. .
Among the bright slogans at the protests are “Down weapons, up wages” and “Home, work, retirement. Provide a living wage!” The protest was attended by representatives of various social groups – from workers to doctors, teachers, drivers and hairdressers. They came out to protest the day after the Roman public transport drivers went on strike. If the demands of the trade unions are not heard, they promise to bring about 30 thousand people to the streets.
