The 2024 season in amateur football competitions in the Nizhny Novgorod region is nearing the beginning. Over the past two years, regional competitions have been held without division into leagues. The teams were scattered geographically, and at the second stage they were united into the Major and First Leagues, playing for cups and medals. Many participants were unhappy with this development of events and wanted to return to the traditional division into the strongest echelon and the First League. Most likely, in 2024, regional football will return to two leagues, where teams will have an equal chance of winning.
On February 15, a meeting of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Football Federation was held, where the format of the competition was discussed. As it turned out, the number of participants allows for division into leagues so that viewers can see matches of equal opponents, and not a huge number of defeats. Preliminarily, 10 teams representing Arzamas, Arzamas district, Bogorodsk, Bor, Kovernino, Vyksa, Dzerzhinsk, Semenov and Nizhny Novgorod should play in the Major League. The best teams based on the results of the last season of the First League can also enter the elite division of regional football. The gold medals in the 2023 season were won by “Motor” from the Volga region, and the silver medal was won by “Trud” from Sosnovka.
The start of the 2024 season in amateur football competitions in the Nizhny Novgorod region is scheduled for April 27-28.
