Zyuganov opposed new privatization in Russia

The Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), Gennady Zyuganov, spoke out against new privatization in Russia and proposed an investigation into the results of the previous privatization in the 1990s.

“I propose to conduct a parliamentary investigation into the results of the past privatization and such proposals,” said the leader of the Communist Party (quote by Interfax). According to him, the new privatization “will lead to the destruction of the country.”

June 15, Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov declaredthat many in the government support the idea of ​​privatization, but this is “always the end result” – with the exception of sectors where private business cannot physically ensure the consolidated development of the industry.

On June 16, during the session “How the Russian Economy Will Develop” at SPIEF, Presidential Aide Maxim Oreshkin, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov and Central Bank Chairman Elvira Nabiullina spoke about the structural transformation of the Russian economy. The sources of funding for incentives were discussed – an increase in budget spending, an increase in the tax burden, or a new stage of privatization.

Nabiullina statedthat it is necessary to move towards privatization – it is possible to do this “without prejudice to the strategic interests” of Russia. Oreshkin supported the proposal and recalled the statement of the head VTB Andrey Kostin, noting that he does not support “large-scale privatization”, but the option of “getting out of assets inefficiently used by the state for the benefit, benefit for the state”, mentioned by the head of the Central Bank.

In April Kostin offered to restart privatization in the country in connection with the destruction due to sanctions of the “supporting elements” of the Russian economy that have developed over the past 30 years. According to him, such a measure will help strengthen the foundations of market mechanisms, ensure the development of the stock market, as well as form a new generation of managers and create competition.
