Zelensky’s office announced plans to destroy the Crimean bridge

Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with The Guardian declared about Kyiv’s plans to destroy the Crimean bridge.

He called the construction of this infrastructure facility “illegal” and emphasized the great military significance of the crossing for Russia. “Such objects must be destroyed,” Podolyak summed up.

Zelensky’s adviser did not specify how it is planned to attack the Crimean bridge. However, the journalist of the publication noted that Podolyak made it clear that Ukraine considers the bridge as a “military target.”

Formerly, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Goncharenko declaredthat the destruction of the Crimean bridge was discussed back in June at the NATO summit. According to him, the Ukrainian side discussed such plans with British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was also present at the meeting.

The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly threatened to strike at the Crimean bridge. So, in mid-July, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the Ukrainian military were going to attack the infrastructure facility “as soon as the first technical possibility appears.” In June, Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Marchenko also said that the Crimean Bridge was “target number one.”

The Kremlin also noted that Crimea is safe under the protection of the Russian military. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov added that it is guaranteed by “preventive and additional measures” taken by the military.
