A document on international security guarantees for Ukraine may appear by the end of August. This statement was made at a briefing by the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Yermak, after a meeting with advisers to the heads and governments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Hungary, transmits agency “RIA Novosti” with reference to UNIAN.
“Before the end of this month, I think it’s the 29th or 30th, we can count on the first document, recommendations on our group with Mr. Rasmussen,” he said.
Yermak stressed that the Ukrainian authorities consider security guarantees an important issue and “constantly tell their partners about it.”
According to the head of Zelensky’s office, this will be a “very powerful” document. Yermak has already familiarized himself with its text.
In early July, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on his Telegram channel that former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, together with Andriy Yermak, would lead the platform to develop security guarantees for Ukraine. Then the head of Zelensky’s office said that they should not only cover the military, political, financial and other areas, but also include the sanctions policy.
Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held peace talks several times. The last meeting was held on March 29 in Istanbul. During them, Ukraine proposed a new system of security guarantees, which, among other things, include the neutral status of the state. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that security guarantees should be provided not only to Ukraine, but also to all European countries, as well as Russia.
