An electronic petition has been registered on the official website of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky demanding that the leader of the country keep May 9 Victory Day as a public holiday.
The text of the petition says that veterans, home front workers, victims of concentration camps are gone, a whole generation of people is gone, and only one thing remains, namely the memory of hard battles, hard work and the “Great Victory”. According to the authors, the cancellation of the celebration of May 9 in Ukraine is another attempt to implement the idea of ”total dismantling of historical memory”, which should not be allowed.
In this regard, as the authors of the petition noted, May 9 should remain an official holiday and non-working day in Ukraine.
